Naval Architect 

 

 

 

Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design is seeking a Naval Architect to join its award-winning team in Lymington, UK. Malcolm McKeon has been a leading designer in the superyacht industry for over 40 years.  His portfolio includes more than 200 sailing and motor yachts, 55 of them in excess of 30m in length.

 

Job description

 

• contribute to the exterior and interior design of a new build superyacht focusing on the technical and naval architecture aspects of the design

• create and adapt designs, drawings and technical calculations and ensure they comply with current regulations and Clients’ requirements

• work closely with a host of external parties and our internal team

 

General requirements

 

• three+ years relevant work experience, ideally in the design of large yachts

• past experience in all project phases required—from concept to build process to delivery

• impeccable attention to detail and strong work ethic

• good time management skills; delivering work on time and to a high standard

• excellent visual and verbal communication skills

• must work well within a varied team

• fluency in English

• must have the legal right to work in the UK/sponsorship not available

 

Technical requirements

 

• excellent AutoCAD and Rhino (or similar) modelling skills required

• good understanding of naval architecture principles and ability to produce design calculations (previous experience with the Maxsurf suite would be ideal)

• knowledge of the design and engineering of aluminium structures (knowledge of Lloyds SSC would be beneficial)

• understanding of relevant Flag and Class requirements for large yachts is essential

• evidence on CV of technical detailing

• understanding of boatbuilding methods, materials, and requirements

• produce high quality exterior visuals

• create and adapt designs, drawings and technical calculations and ensure they comply with current regulations and Clients’ requirements

• work closely with a host of external parties and our internal team

 

General requirements

 

• three+ years relevant work experience, ideally in the design of large yachts

• impeccable attention to detail and strong work ethic

• good time management skills; delivering work on time and to a high standard

• excellent visual and verbal communication skills

• must work well within a varied team

• fluency in English

• must have the legal right to work in the UK/sponsorship not available

 

Technical requirements

 

• excellent AutoCAD and Rhino (or similar) modelling skills required

• very good Adobe CS skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) required.

• understanding of relevant Flag and Class requirements for large yachts preferred
